Introduction to FTP
There are several ways, depending on your computer system, that you can transfer files to your account directory. The process by which files are transferred to the web server is called "FTP" (File Transfer Protocol). You have unlimited access via FTP 24 hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure.
All of your files and subdirectories go into your /httpdocs directory. DO NOT DELETE ANY DIRECTORIES OR FILES IN YOUR ACCOUNT. The files pertaining to your web site that you design should be uploaded to your /httpdocs directory and should be the only files you ever replace.
General Settings for All FTP Programs
Host Name/Address: ftp.yourdomain.com (or your account IP Address if your domain name is not pointing to our servers yet)
User ID: FTP Username
Password: FTP Password
Upload your files for your website to your /httpdocs directory. You would've set the FTP User ID and Password when the domain was setup in your Plesk Control Panel.
Naming Your Homepage
Remember to name your home page index.html in order to overwrite the 'Under Construction Page' that we created for you when you signed up. If you prefer to use another name for your home page you can go into your File Manager in your control panel and go to the /httpdocs directory and delete the index.html page. Here are the other files that can be used for your home page:
default.htm
index.phtml
index.pht
index.cgi
index.shtml
index.htm
welcome.cgi
welcome.html
index.htm
